Chief's Office

Welcome to the City of Canandaigua, aptly named The Chosen Spot. You have chosen a very safe community in which to live, work, and play. Annual Citizen Surveys show that our residents feel comfortable walking around the city at night and a constant police presence further ensures their safety.

Police Officers protect our city 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The lobby is open to the public Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm for retrieval of impounded vehicles or property, obtaining copies of accident reports, requests for police service or general inquiries. We can be reached by telephone at 396-5035 for non-emergencies, or 911 for emergencies. Visitors to the Police Department during hours the lobby is closed can obtain service through the use of a phone on the outside of the building which immediately connects them with a police dispatcher or by calling one of the above phone numbers.

If you are going away for an extended period of time (one week or more), the Police Department will provide a property check. You are asked to stop in to police headquarters during normal business hours to fill out a brief form to put this check into place. You will be asked such questions as will any vehicles be at your residence while you are away, will there be any lights left on, are there any pets in the household being cared for by others, and who else has a key/access to your property, as well as any emergency contact numbers.

Like most municipalities, the City of Canandaigua prohibits parking on all city streets from 2 am-5 am, this includes most municipal parking lots. There are exceptions that are clearly marked in each municipal parking lot if such overnight parking is allowed.

The Police Department's website contains other valuable information pertaining to living in the City of Canandaigua can be obtained.
